Just after the organized beaches and marinas of Vouliagmeni, on the coastal way to Varkiza, at the southeastern part of the bay of Vouliagmeni, are found a lot of small coves, tiny beaches with sand, wide flat rocks: all these constitute the well known Limanakia (the word in Greek means “small ports”) of Vouliagmeni. The place is situated some 23 to 26 kilometers far from the center of Athens at the Southeast; the beaches are only a few meters off the road and there are enough places for parking by the road.
All the beaches are not organized at all, with clean, deep and pretty cold sea, if compared with the nearby sandy beaches of the area. No food and drink facilities, but a cantina for snacks and refreshments are available at the beaches. However, you may find excellent taverns and fish taverns at the nearby settlements of Vouliagmeni and Varkiza, where you will have the chance to enjoy gorgeous meals by the sea.
During the weekends Limanakia get pretty crowded: young people, but also elder fans of the place come here to enjoy their swimming and sunbathing. So, when you come here, you have to find a free spot on the rocks to enjoy your sunbathing; or you may get immediately in the deep sea. Don’t get surprised if you see nudists to enjoy the sun and sea beside you; people who come here are nudism tolerant. Besides, these are not beaches for families; the majority of those who choose this place are either young people or people of higher ages who keep coming to Limanakia since their adolescence.
In case of emergence, the pharmacies of Vouliagmeni, some 2-4 kilometers northwestern to the place, are available for you. In Voulagmeni and in Varkiza you will also find any public or private services you might need.
Access to the beaches is easy by public buses, by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes. If you arrive by private means you will park your vehicle at the parking by the road and you will reach the beach following the steep downhill paths which lead to the sea. |
