Delenia beach, Attica |
The relatively long sandy beach of Delenia, situated below the settlement of Panormos, owes its name to the homonymous old fish tavern at the sea front, literally at the edge of the sea. The beach is found at a distance of some 18 kilometers southeastern to the town of Keratea to which it belongs, and some 59 kilometers southeastern to the center of Athens. It is a nice beach, well protected from the northern winds and in summer it is a good choice when there are strong northern winds, which affect the rest of the beaches around. It has a small safe port which during the German domination served as the point of departure for the Greek patriots escaping to the Middle East. |

Only few accommodation facilities are available close to the beach, but you may find lodging in the broader area of Lavreotiki, at Sounio, at Anavyssos and elsewhere. However, once at the place you will have the chance to taste gorgeous fresh fish and sea food prepared in the homonymous fish tavern just at the edge of the sea. The owner of the tavern has also a fishing boat and thus, the provisions in fish and sea food from the area around are daily assured. Thus, after you have enjoyed swimming and sunbathing you may add to the pleasure, tasting the delicacies of the taverns of the area. The beach is not organized; only a few umbrellas and a net for beach volley are the facilities offered to swimmers. Some tamarisk trees scattered around will protect you from the burning sun of the hot summer days. The sea is pretty shallow and deepens smoothly, which make this beach suitable for families with small children, for elderly people and for beginners in swimming. The sand is wide enough, so the swimmers have enough space for beach games. Finally, as the sea is shallow and usually calm and the sea bed is sandy and smooth, you may enjoy swimming even it the dark. |

In case of health problems the pharmacies of Keratea (some 18 kilometers far away to the Northwest), or the local Medical Center of Lavrio (some 5 kilometers southern to the beach) are available for you. In Keratea you will also find a Police Station and a Traffic Police station, and at Lavrion there is also a Port Authorities’ Station. Access to the beach is possible by rented or private car and motorbikes. During the summer weekends (especially in August) you may have a slight problem of parking very close to the beach. To reach the beach, you will follow the new highway (the extension of Attiki Odos) leading to Lavrio, and turn left at the lights with the sign “Perigiali. You will arrive to the settlement of Mikrolimano and to beach after you have driven for some 4 kilometers. If you reach the beach by boat or yacht, you may use the small safe port for mooring. |
