It was built with pentelic marble. It has 13 columns on its long side and 6 on its narrow. The feats of Hercules and Theseus are engraved in relief on its metopes. The Theseio was built during the time of Pericles. |

| After 1821, it was the only closed and covered space usable as a museum, the first national archaeological museum of modern Greece. During the early years of Christianity the temple was converted into the church of Saint George. There was also a square building on the same hill known as the Skevothiki, a small sanctuary from the 2nd century BC, that was dedicated to Demos and the Three Graces. | ||
